Home safety and access
Practical changes that make your home safer and easier to move around.
What's involved
We visit you at home and look at how you move around it day to day. Getting in and out of the front door, using the bathroom and toilet, getting in and out of bed, reaching things in the kitchen, and anything else that's become tricky.
We look for falls risks and access problems, take measurements, and talk with you about what you'd be comfortable changing. Recommendations range from simple things like rearranging furniture or adding lighting, to grab rails, ramps and bathroom changes.
Who it can help
- Older people who want to stay living safely in their own home
- People who have had a fall, or are worried about having one
- People coming home from hospital who need things set up before they arrive
- People living with disability whose home no longer suits their needs
How it works
After the visit we write up our recommendations. For simple changes, that may be all you need. For larger modifications, we can prepare the detailed specifications that builders and funding bodies ask for, help you get quotes, and check the work suits you once it's done.
If you're renting, we can explain what's possible and help you talk to your landlord or housing provider.
Paying for a home visit
Home visits can be paid privately, through a Support at Home package or through the NDIS for self managed and plan managed participants. Travel may be charged depending on where you live. See fees and cancellations.
