Functional capacity assessments

A thorough look at how you manage everyday tasks, and what support would make a real difference.

What's involved

We spend time with you, usually at home, looking at how you manage personal care, household tasks, getting around, community access, work or study and your social life. We talk with you and the people who support you, watch how tasks are done, and use standardised assessment tools where they add something useful.

Afterwards you receive a written report describing your strengths, where you need support, and our recommendations. Every recommendation is explained, so the person reading it understands why it matters.

Who it can help

  • NDIS participants preparing for a plan reassessment or applying for new supports
  • People whose needs have changed after illness, injury or a hospital stay
  • Older people who want a clear picture of the help they need to stay at home
  • Anyone who needs solid evidence of their support needs for a funding body or insurer

How it works

First we confirm what the assessment is for and who will read the report, because that shapes what we look at. The assessment itself usually takes a few hours and is sometimes split across two visits so it isn't too tiring.

With your consent, we may also speak with family, support workers or other health professionals. We then write the report, check the details with you, and send it to you and anyone else you've agreed to.

Paying for an assessment

Assessments can be paid privately or funded through the NDIS for self managed and plan managed participants. Some insurers and aged care providers also fund them. Our fees page explains how assessment and report writing time is charged.
